Well, LJ's slightly creepy new TOS was the reminder I needed to back up on DW again.

I'm glad that I did it, but the comments didn't seem to import this time.  Is anyone else having that problem?

It took a little longer for my comments to import this time, but eventually it worked.

I'm more than a little unsettled by LJ's new user agreement. Maybe I should start hunting down all the fic I love that's only available on LJ and save it to my harddrive.

Cool, maybe I just didn't wait long enough. Thanks!

Yeah, I've been thinking about doing that too.

I didn't even read them. What's the creepy part about?

It's not so much that there is a single a creepy part as it is that the new TOS consistently refer back to the fact that all users must be in compliance with the laws of the Russian Federation- which most people who are not Russian won't know off the top of their heads and would probably have a tough time getting familiar with right this minute.

Most people guess that if they've changed the user agreement to go after anyone it's Russian anti-government bloggers (which is creepy enough in my book), but I don't know what Russian law says about specific fics/fanfic in general/etc. I always post my fic on AO3 and just link back to it here, but even so- the user agreement specifically says that they have the right to delete your blog without warning if they find you aren't in compliance with the rest of the agreement- i.e. Russian law- and since I don't know specifically what that means, I find it pretty questionable.

Well, that worries me now. :s More than anything, because of the gay thing. I'd have to check if Russia has something in their laws about it, but I know it isn't a good idea to yell about it there.

What I've been given to understand is that mentioning LGBT stuff is not technically against the new rules, but that it must be marked as "adult content" no matter what it is. So like a lesbian mentioning holding hands with her girlfriend is adult content now.

That's pretty uncomfortable IMO. There's also the fact that on LJ's main post about how this was still an international blogging platform and that not too much would change- and on most of the posts the LJ staff have made since then- a lot of users who talk about LGBT issues or being LGBT have asked if they have anything to worry about with the new TOS, and instead of being answered their questions were deleted.

So far I haven't heard anything about wholesale deletions, but it's worth being wary of, I think.

Thanks! LOL I searched for that name over there and came up empty - search on dw (and lj) is awful.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to work very well, does it?
