My shows
Designated Survivor is back! It came back last week and I didn't realize, so I had two to watch. I have a complicated relationship with this show, but I'm still interested to see where it goes next.
So I love the concept and characters of this show, but for the last five or so episodes before the break it was basically a master class on how not to do suspense. I guess somebody told this show's writers that the best way to keep people interested was to draw out major developments by keeping the characters from giving each other vital information with a string of thinner and thinner plot devices, but it is in fact not that. Your viewers are going to reach a saturation point; they are going to get tired of constant emotional turmoil with no payoff, and if they do that before you decide to finally get wherever the heck you're going, you'll have lost your audience.
But anyway both the new episodes were a) really very good and b) actually moving the plot along. So I'm very happy.
I don't really have anything specific to say other than that I hope Aaron Shore doesn't turn out to be a bad guy, because I like him a lot, and I'm interested to see what happens next.
And speaking of shows I have a complicated relationship with...
So I'm caught up with this, and I think the last four or five episodes have been... actually quite good? I was always thought of this show as something that I tolerated for Malec, but it's been improving quite a bit (and the Malec content has been great, that "I love you" scene basically killed me).
I was a little disappointed by the Jace-isn't-Clary's-brother reveal, though. Don't get me wrong, I knew it was going to happen, I just think that "oh she's my sister, oh but I still love her" pseudo-incestuous angst Jace had going on was the most interesting thing about him, and I'm sorry to lose it. Also, I kind of like Clary/Simon? I'm not super invested, but- maybe because I was rewatching Little Dorrit at the same time- I found seeing a guy confess his puppy crush on his best friend and have her actually reciprocate was really refreshing. I do like Simon's dynamic with Maia though, I'd like it if they got together.
So Shadowhunters isn't coming back until June apparently and Lucifer isn't coming back until May? What is that about? Why are there suddenly going to be spring hiatus' and shows during the summer?
