So, I watched a Christmas M.A.S.H. episode last night

Or rather, a just-after-Christmas M.A.S.H. episode, where they meet a couple of a British soldiers and learn that there is a Boxing Day tradition wherein the gentry switch places with their servants for the day.  Is this true?  I've never heard of it before, and if it is true I feel like I should have heard of it before.  (I'm aware that I could just google/wikipedia this, and I will if I have to, but I just want to say that if it is true, it's been horribly un-exploited in fic if I've never read about it.  There should be two or three Jeeves and Wooster stories at least).

It came up as well in... Downton Abbey? Upstairs Downstairs? One of those two. So It's probably true. CUE ALL THE JEEVES/WOOSTER SWITCHING FIC. Although the only image I can come up with is Bertie standing in the kitchen looking thoroughly baffled by it all and somehow managing to burn water or something.

If anyone could burn water, it would be Bertie.

I don't have that many fic ideas, either, but it seems like the kind of idea Bertie would embrace, and Jeeves would go along with it because he finds Bertie's ineptitude kind of adorable.

It is an old tradition that actually died out within the last sixty years. don't know when it started, but there was a tradition just like that...

Cool. Thank you! Now I just how to figure out how silly I should feel for not having known that already...
