So it's fanfic writers appreciation day over on tumblr and I just got a message that I'm kind of boggling over.
It's very nice, from someone saying they love my writing, but... I'm pretty sure they didn't actually mean me? To be clear, while I doubt I'll ever be anyone's favorite writer ever in a given fandom, I know people like my work. This just... doesn't feel right. I can't really pinpoint why, there's nothing absolutely concrete, I guess it's not the kind of message I would send me if I was this person? Overthinking might as well be my middle name sometimes, but it just doesn't seem like me.
Just saying some variant on 'thank you, I like your work too' seems like the path of least awkwardness (because if it was a mistake drawing attention to it would be awkward, and if it wasn't drawing attention to it would be even more awkward), so I'm probably going to take it- but I feel weird now.
