Ah this is what I refer to as the Strip illusion. So the Vegas Strip is the road that runs through the city of Las Vegas with all the casinos and fancy hotels on it. And when you are a tourist, you can stand on the north end and see down to the south end and it LOOKS like your hotel is maybe a 10 or 20 minute walk...but then you start walking and it's 2 hours later and you aren't any closer to where you want to be. And you're drenched in sweat.
Fic-wise, you think you can reach That Point in 500 words but 5000 words later, your main characters finally bump into each other in that very clever way you imagined.
