"Day 25"

A show you plan on watching

I'm trying to watch all of Doctor Who from the beginning, which is a pretty serious undertaking.  It's slow going, but I'm enjoying it.  I'm still on the first doctor, and I'm sort of marveling at a) what a snaky dude he is and b) how much the Daleks used to talk.  Yeah, theirs is one arc of many, but now I get why the modern Daleks speak in such short sentences, if they use more than one word at all.  If they say a big hunk of dialogue in those voices, you're only going to understand maybe a quarter of it- if that.  Anyway, I'm having fun with it.

"Day 26"

OMG WTF season finale

When I first saw this one, I thought it said series finale- making this an opposite to "Day 22" where we could discuss a finale we found more frustrating, more that's how you decided to go out? than awesome and satisfying.  Now that I think about it, I know that it probably means a season finale where you went, "I have to wait months to find out what's next?  What's up with that?"  I'm actually usually pretty calm about that- though if I wasn't I might have torn my hair a bit over the finale of Sleepy Hollow- so I'm answering it with series finales instead.

My first thought was Firefly, which is a bit of a cheat anyway because I'm not talking about "Objects in Space" but rather Serenity, the movie.  I like Serenity, don't get me wrong, but Firefly left me with so many unanswered questions.  What was the true significance of the Blue Sun corporation?  For what purpose was River- and assumedly her fellow students at the academy too- trained as a killer?  What was Inara's occasionally-eluded too secret past?  What was the deal with Shepherd Book?  You know, all the things that Whedon said on the DVDs would have been revealed in the second season Firefly never had.  He got a chance that canceled shows basically never get to answer all those questions, but he didn't.  It was a good movie, but it touched almost none of the issues that, as a Firefly fan, I was grinding my teeth over, choosing instead to deal with issues I never thought were issues in the first place.  So yeah- WTF, Joss?

Since I am fudging a little with that one, there's also the end of Star Trek: Enterprise.  Enterprise was undoubtedly the weakest Star Trek, so a bad finale was really just the cherry on top, but damn.  Random Riker and Counselor Troi make an appearance, as Riker runs a holodeck program of the original Enterprise crew's final voyage, theoretically because it'll teach him something- but it really just takes the drama out of it and limits the screen time of the characters actually from the show, and when it comes to the ultimate lesson of a horribly botched mission and a pointless death... I got nothing.
