I finally saw X-Men Days of Future Past

This isn't the most specific comment in the world, but-
I went into this ready to be annoyed by all the things I've already heard people complaining about: the triumvirate of white dudes + an occasional blue dude of it all. And I was. I was annoyed. But something I haven't heard a lot of people say and want to put out there is this: just once, I want to see an X-Men movie that feels like it was written by people who had seen the other X-Men movies. I just want a little consistency. I want to see the characters in circumstances that I can easily relate to the circumstances I last saw them in. They handled this okay as far as the First Class characters were concerned (although killing Magneto's people off screen like I couldn't possibly give a shit what happened to them was pretty low down) but the X-Men characters... Last time I checked, Xavier was dead (ish. I remember his mind being in the coma guy, but the coma guy wasn't Patrick Stewart. Something more had to happen to get his regular body back to its regular state), Magneto only barely had his powers, and Kitty Pride had no such time travel power.
Now, I'm all for fanfiction writers telling me the super gay of love story of Magneto regaining his powers, saving Charles with the power of angst-ridden love, and generally getting his groove back, and also the grim but ultimately empowering tale of Kitty Pride getting new powers and making friends with awesome POC who will not appear in the idyllic fixed future because I couldn't possibly give a shit what happened to them either- but a little lip service to those issues would have been nice.
