So I've had the box set of The Parasol Protectorate series on my bookshelf for a while and I've sort of been putting off reading it and I started like three days ago and I'm almost done (I will be by tomorrow).  Oh my god it's so good.  I'm such a mess right now.

I know I've been spoiled by it and seriously how am I supposed to read books that aren't this clever and charming and full of LGBT characters and awesome relationships?  Luckily there seems to be a follow up book series, so I won't be completely bereft.

Has anybody on my flist also read it?  I'd love someone to talk to about my feelings, which are immense.

Oh...I read Soulless about half-a-dozen years ago and thought it was excellent, but never followed up with the rest of the series.

The others are also very good. In the fourth and fifth books a really surprising M/M couple develops that I've become super invested in.

I haven't read any, but I'd love to hear more about the books.

They're Victorian Era steampunk with vampires and werewolves and so forth, and that combined with the LGBT characters was my main selling point. Towards the end of the series an M/M relationship that I got super invested in started to develop and I really can't stop flailing about it.

I love them! Also the Finishing School series which is (kind've) a prequel, and Prudence, which is set some time later. <3

Yeah, I'm planning to get a hold of those. Is it important to read Finishing School before Prudence? I get what Prudence would be about (and I'm excited to see where that goes because of certain unresolved plotlines, and also I bet she grows into a cool lady), but it wasn't obvious how much Finishing School would cross over.

no, Finishing School is set a lot earlier, and while it's the same universe it's pretty much separate in terms of plot (a couple of characters from the Parasol books appear in it as children, and Lord Akeldama crops up occasionally). so you can read Prudence without having read the others. (Also Imprudence, the sequel, should be out this summer!)

Okay, cool! I may end up getting Prudence first and then reading Finishing School while I'm waiting for the new one then :)

This is very like binge-watching a TV show and then having to wait for the next installment like everyone else.
