So livejournal is doing a "like" button after all?

I haven't seen much more than the announcement, but it seems silly that they're all, "We can't wait for your feedback!!!" when I distinctly remember everyone already saying that they didn't think LJ needed likes because Facebook and Tumblr exist, and if we wanted LJ to be just like them we wouldn't still use it.

Like we all know that feel when you don't really have anything to say but you still want to show that you saw the post and are supportive or whatever, but we all also know that having a like/kudo option drastically diminishes communication.

I'm not saying it's a completely pointless feature (and anyone who likes the idea should go on liking it), I'm just saying maybe a site shouldn't undermine the one remaining thing that makes it special (that you basically have to comment on a post if you want interaction with the poster).

I just find it funny that two years after suggesting it (and getting shot down), we have problems here on ElJay for two months before they launch something that nobody wanted anyway!

That's LJ for you. I thought maybe they learned something that time they changed the whole site's look and enough people complained that they let us keep the old one if we wanted to. Apparently they didn't, though.
