megan_moonlight)
Such a great question!
1. Sherlock and James Bond. I've never known a crossover to be more common, or more well done. There are just so many good stories and headcanons on this topic. It seems like everyone has written one. I've written one. Honestly, I sometimes forget the combo isn't canon (not that I haven't heard people argue that it totally is).
2. More generally, I love same actor crossovers. You know the kind- where the cast of one show meets a few (if not all) of the characters from another and shenanigans ensue because so-and-so looks just like so-and-so (or sometimes- depending on the story- used to be that person). There were some particularly great Stargate/Burn Notice crossovers playing with the Daniel/Victor resemblance back in the day, but there are too many examples of this kind of fic to list them all.
3. Another more general one, but I love Harry Potter Fusions. As much as I like the Harry Potter series, I sometimes think that what fans later did with the housing system is actually more interesting than the canon. I love all the thought fans put into sorting characters from a different series, and I love the feel you get in a story when most of the main characters end up spread more evenly across the houses. Some of the best ones will also work the Harry Potter characters in as well.
4. Although I love crossovers it's hard for me to list favorites because I think my favorite thing is actually when a crossover surprises me? Even though they're not the two most compatible series (in my view) I once read a Stargate/Doctor Who crossover that was truly fantastic. I read a Torchwood/Sherlock crossover where Mycroft was Ianto's father and it worked. An Avengers/MIB/The Avengers crossover where Agent K and Emma Peel were Coulson's parents and it worked. People's creativity with these things amazes me so much. (I don't really have time to comb through my bookmarks for these, but if there's one you would like to read let me know and I'll go link hunting)
5. I have to mention one canon crossover that really blows my mind: Bones and Sleepy Hollow. I wouldn't say I love this because I don't really watch either show anymore and it also sort of drives me crazy, but I just find it so fascinating. With so many shows doing successful spin-offs, it's not hard to see why the network wanted to try it, but... Somebody honestly said "Let's just have the Sleepy Hollow team consult with the Bones team and it'll just be a fun little one off." And it means that monsters and demons and witches and people who have been alive for 200 years (or so) just casually live in the same universe as Bones! That's canon.
Honorable mention canon crossover: one of my favorite shows, Profit, was co-created by David Greenwalt, who also co-created Angel. It was originally his intention to have Jim Profit play a recurring role on Angel (I believe in season 5). The actor couldn't make it work, so it never happened- but David Greenwalt still essentially thought those two shows could've been happening in the same world. That kind of thing just amazes me.

Date: 2017-01-14 04:55 am (UTC)I had forgotten you were one of the rare fellow Profit fans. Profit on Angel would have been amazing. I would have LOVED to see Spike and some demons all look at Jim and be like "whoa, now THAT guy is fucked up" like they're really impressed a mere human is like that lol
oh crap I think I ship Spike/Profit now.
Or Profit/Lindsey, since depraved lawyers like to bond. And Profit and Lilah would get along like hotcakes or you know, kill each other.
I didn't realize Bond-Sherlock crossovers were such a thing! That's so cool. Is it weird that the first thing I think of is Bond being a smartass about Mycroft's 'bureaucratic' rules and Mycroft coming back with the snark to end all snark and blowing Bond's snark out of the water.

Date: 2017-01-16 01:09 am (UTC)Gosh, yes- Spike's reaction to Proft would have been fantastic, and I love the idea of plain old human Jim Profit being the scariest of them all. I did read a Profit/Lindsey fic once. Unless it's been deleted it should still be in AO3's (small) Profit section. And Profit's interactions with Lilah- that could have been wonderful.
Given how many Bond/Sherlock crossovers there are, it's a shame I haven't seen more stories like you describe- I love it! There would be so much dry humor to go around. The most common Bond/Sherlock trope is that Q is Sherlock and Mycroft's younger brother, which I find quite plausible tbh.

Date: 2017-01-16 08:30 pm (UTC)I like Bondlock crossovers, too :3 There shoudl be more fics about Mycroft and M meeting, though. Or Lestarde and M meeting.
I love finding new, surprising crossovers as well!
An Avengers/MIB/The Avengers crossover where Agent K and Emma Peel were Coulson's parents and it worked.
This. So much.

Not sure if this means you wanted the link or not, but if you did it's here. (https://archiveofourown.org/works/1195512) If you've already read it- it's an awesome fic, isn't it?
Have you watched The Avengers? Because I think about how much I want a Kingsman crossover with it all the time and I feel like not a lot of people would appreciate it.
