Not quite sure how I feel about the idea of Star Trek: Picard (such that I haven't even watched the trailer yet), but given a certain casting spoiler from said trailer, I have a question:

What are the odds they right a decades old wrong and

a) Let Chakotay and Admiral Janeway be referenced as married/together (which I think was already done in Renegades) and

b) Give Seven of Nine a sensible love interest or perhaps even finally ditch the old "(romantic) love makes us human" thing altogether and let Seven being awkward and/or uninterested in dating be an accepted part of her, not something that makes her "broken"?

Anyway, it's possible that part of the reason I haven't watched the trailer is that I'm not ready to know if the answer here is "no" just yet.

What do you guys think, and you excited for it generally?

I was somewhat more excited for it after seeing the trailer tbh.

From vague memory, I don't think any of your questions are really addressed by the trailer but it does open up a number of interesting questions.

For what its worth, I am EXTREMELY excited for the show.

I would LOVE for them to canon recognize JC - the ship of my heart, but I'm not holding my breath. I *expect* Janeway to be referenced and I'm hopeful for a cameo (god, I want her own show again dammit). (I need to read that renegades thing apparently).

Mostly I'm worried about what they're going to do to Seven. Like a) Jeri looks stunning in the trailer, so I'm here for that - I think they've released her from those damn catsuits. But she's quite...casual and reverent in the trailer. I don't want the neuro-atypical queer-ness of her character to be erased and chalked up to her spending more time amongst humans. That would erase her complexity.

But the trailer doesn't really address any of your concerns; its worth watching.

And if it's half as good as Disco S2, then we're going to be fine.

I am a bit annoyed because I had not thought there would be any reason for me to want to watch it, but someone said the words Seven of Nine, and it was indeed amazing to see her in the trailer! (I'm a bit wrong about Star Trek and only really like Voyager. I think because they were so far away from the Federation. There are reasons I'm a B7 fan. Heh.)

Although, yes, at the very least Seven had better not be married to Chakotay! But it was great to see her back in the trailer. I suppose at some point in the distant future when it finally turns up somewhere I might be able to watch it, I'll have to now. Especially if they ever get Janeway as well. And it's pretty ironic that the all-new TRek show is the past and the nostalgia one is the one in the future. I think it's not just me doing ST wrong...

For a franchise that's all about boldly going forwards they've been doing an awful lot of going backwards lately!

I hope Picard is good, though! It did make my heart sit up more than I expected to see Seven again like that. <3

(Normally when I confess about Voyager people start trying to convert me to the Church of DS9 and I'm sure it's awesome and all, but does it have Janeway in it? No, it does not. /rests case)

I'm not the right person to reply here really as I have not seen the old series. I do however plan on checking out the new, and from the trailer I am excited. And I don't think the trailer answers any of your queations either. I know my nephew who has seen the old series is excited and very happy Seven of Nine will be part of the series.

Unfortunately, I won't be watching it since it's on Pay TV.
