Wicked Trailer

Not entirely sure how I'm feeling after seeing the Wicked trailer.

I try to withhold judgement on these things because I do love plenty of musical movies that other people think are trashy, but I will say it is... not the most promising thing I've seen. More than anything it seems... haphazard? IDK. Broadly the Hollywood track record with Oz related properties is not good.  

Anyone else have opinions about it? Anyone pumped? Horrified? Don't know don't care?

I just don't understand why they're splitting it into two movies.

Otherwise, I don't care for it. Aside from listening to "Defying Gravity", I was never quite into the whole Wicked phase that most people were years ago, the musical or the book it was based off of.

I like Wicked but I never loved it the way some people do. I haven't read the book though I know a fair amount about it secondhand.

As for splitting it into 2 movies, hard agree. When they do that with franchises like Harry Potter or the Hunger Games, it's annoying but it makes a certain amount of financial sense -- like, they know they have cash cow so they're gonna milk it. In this case... idk.

With some things it does make sense, for example Dune has been split into two movies because that first book is dense as fuck and it's impossible to have that be a singular film. But I think with most things it is unnecessary and it's definitely milking in that cash cow, and this Wicked movie is certainly doing that. It also makes no sense since a lot of movies nowadays are nearly three hours long anyway, which is even more unnecessary imho since a lot of time they don't need to be that needlessly long.

Very true. I remember when the LOTR movies came out and it was kind of a treat for a movie to be so long. Nowadays very few have enough going on to warrant the length.
