Helen/James/John from Sanctuary, maybe. I mean, when you meet the heroine, and then you meet her ex who she still kind of loves and who loves her but it's complicated because he's Jack the Ripper, you kind of know that happily ever after is not in the cards. And then their best friend who's sort of Sherlock Holmes comes along and things are even more complicated then you thought... "End badly" doesn't even begin to describe it. But here's the thing: I wasn't really in it for it to end well. Every part of that dynamic was hurty, but I came to the party for it to hurt, frankly, because it was also epic.
