Saddest unrequited love:

Isn't it always sad?  Though honestly, I maintain that love which is requited but can't happen for some other reason is way sadder (case in point: Doctor Turner and Sister Bernadette in S2 of Call the Midwife; I get a little bleary just thinking about it, and they did eventually get together).  That said, I do have a fondness for unrequited ships.  Guy/Marian.  Norrington/Elizabeth Swann.  I don't really think I can pick the saddest, though.

Ohhh!! Norrington/Elizabeth!! That one has always hit me in the Feels, I love it, but I feel SO BAD for him at the same time!!

Course, most of my UST is completely AU and non-canon, but I have a tendency to dabble in the heartbreak just because...sad and wonderful all at once.

Oh, totally. It comes of being a slash shipper, methinks. When two characters are really together and happy, you're like, "I don't know what to do now." So you gravitate to the folks that aren't.
