Slowly.

Gotta say, watching this last season, I'm reminded why I sort of prefer shipping non-canon pairings.  When the two characters I wanted to get together get together, my angst ratchets up like you wouldn't believe.  It all turns into sitting there going, "The writers will ruin this somehow.  I just know they will."  When your ship isn't canon and you never expect it to be, that angst isn't there.  Barring something really, truly serious (like somebody dies- and frankly, often, not even then), it's hard for writers to kill a love they didn't think was there in the first place.

And then there is "I believe my ship is canon *points to icon* but not everyone has that same belief.

Heh. Very true. Due South is one of those fandoms where the ship was so totally on that line between canon and not canon that it ultimately just came down to what you saw watching the show. Then again, Fraser and Ray lived happily ever after in the wilds of Canada. I'll never know what the people who don't ship it think that was about.

Yeah, srsly...when they ride off into the rising sun together!

And hey, what about that interview when PG said of CKR "Wait until they see the new guy. It's going to be totally homoerotic".

He was so right, too. There was some subtext before, but with RayK it just went sky high.

Although I ship F/K like the shippiest thing, I do get that there was prior subtext. Myself, I have always wondered about the particular kind of emphasis RayV puts on his going-undercover-call when he says so pointedly to Fraser "as a friend"....

Yeah, I'm mostly just an F/K shipper too, but he and RayV did have their moments. That goodbye was really very sad, and there was something interesting about the way he pit it, for sure.

There is one -- and I mean it literally just one F/V that I rec as a personal fave. I can only get good feels from that ship when it's pre-RayK and when the friendship angle remains evident. LMK if you want a link to that fic.

Truth!! So much truth to this! When one ships non-canon, one's expectations CAN'T be crushed by writers...

IKR? I used to always be sad that my ships weren't canon, but the few times they were it was just crazy stressful. Non-canon is actually kind of better.
