Eighth Question

(Oh boy did I ever have a "fuck, how do you spell 'eighth'" moment there. I did it right, right? Spellcheck has ruined me and for some reason LJ isn't doing it for me anymore)

verdande_mi: Do you have any theories as to what the fulcrum is/contains and why it means to much to Red?
I won't see the latest episode until tomorrow, and for all I know this will be explained, although it's way more likely that it won't be until the finale, if that, so I need to get myself together and take a stab at this. But I want to say, before I do, that when theorizing about the Blacklist, I rarely want to be right. I always want the answer to be some mindblowing thing I've never thought of.
Anyway. I think it's basically a blackmail file. It has something to do with the big secret international organization, but I'm not sure if it's information about them, or information that they had about other people. On the one hand, it seems pretty clear to me that whatever it contains would, if made public, also reveal them to the world at large. But on the other hand, it seems to me that they want the fulcrum back as much because it contains information that they want as because they don't want Red- or whoever they believe has it at the moment- to have it. So maybe it's both?
But what it actually technically is? No idea. It could be information on really powerful government officials, who allow this organization to exist because that information cannot get out (that seems plausible to me), but I'm really not sure, and it could be something else entirely. The main thing is that these people, whoever they actually are, need to either have it or know for sure who does.
*shrugs* That's about all I've got. It's a very interesting concept, though, and I can't wait to learn more.

Date: 2015-03-27 05:24 pm (UTC)I think it's safe to assume it's blackmail stuff too, but the thing I get stuck on it how it's still relevant. Like the Fulcrum as we know it, the one Liz has, was made in the 80s...how is the info on it still SO dangerous to people living today (especially as we've seen the people on top - who I've been calling Hydra hahah - have changed). Like with classified government documents, stuff from the 80s is being declassified now and being made public so they aren't like dangerous anymore. But then I guess not everything is made available. Talking in circles hahah.
But I'm like you, I don't want to guess too much, I love letting them tell us. Though I wish they'd do more of the social intra-personal stuff between the characters and less of the case-work.
I am wondering if they're going to go the route that Alias went - did you ever watch that? It started off pretty Blacklist-like, but then quickly went into this super awesome labyrinth of conspiracies, prophecies, ancient math, and weird technology.

I like the case work, myself, but the show is just so good when it gets personal, so I do wish it did more often.
I haven't seen Alias, but I get what you're saying, and things have gotten a little more sci-fi-like on the Blacklist recently (you know, not straight-up sci-fi, but not totally caught up in being 100% realistic either), and it would be cool if they embraced that a little more.

Date: 2015-03-28 09:52 am (UTC)I'm very much in the same boat as you re wanting not to be right - I too love being taken by surprise by this show and it has proven again and again that they have a few twits up their sleeves!
But, yes, everything we have seen and learned so far leads me to think blackmail and very dark secrets too, but I also keep thinking there most be something more than that too. At least I think for Red, he needs a more personal reason to be after the fulcrum than saving his own hide from the people who wants him dead...
Time will tell!
