I watched a couple of episodes of Lucifer because I had to know.  It's not a bad show by any means, and I found it entertaining, but I stand by my original point and I have some issues with it.



1) The similarities to Castle are frankly astonishing here.  It's the same eccentric yet useful male character who follows around the uptight lady cop character until she lets him help and there's UST.  The only difference is that he's a club owner instead of a writer and also he's the devil, which doesn't effect the basic premise as much as you'd think.  I mean, there are angels and demons and people with (kinda) superpowers on this show, and yet they're solving regular run of the mill homicides, because that's apparently what the world needed more of.

2) It's crazy heteronormative.  Like there's a bit with a gay guy in one of the episodes I saw, and no one was homophobic, but having Lucifer be bi seems like such an obvious choice that I hate that he's just so straight.  I mean maybe they were afraid to tread on that ground when it's the devil or whatever, but it's really counterintuitive for this character who flirts with everyone (and by everyone I mean all the women) and gets flirted with in return to not... branch out more.    

Chloe's kid is really cute though.  The show has that going for it; she's adorable.


I watched some of Shadowhunters too.  I've missed a couple episodes so I can't really judge it but my feelings are sort of... mixed?  Like it's certainly pretty, the ideas are interesting, and Malec is cool- but it's weird for me to see a show where I don't recognize a single actor, and I find the writing quality a bit low.

Also, I have questions about Jace and Clary:



From what I've heard the show is pretty different from the books but I'm hoping maybe someone who has read them could maybe tell me what the deal with those two is?  My impression going in was that Clary and Jace were the love story, like I saw a lot of people going "OMG they finally kissed and it was perfect" and all that, and then it turns out they're siblings and the show's like "let's put that away real fast" and I so desperately want to know what's happening there.  I mean... Are they not the big love story?  Is he gonna be the bad guy now or something?  Or are they going to turn out not to be related after all?  Or are they going to get back together even if they are?  (I doubt it'll be that last one with a series like this, but hey, sometimes crazy shit happens.)

Seriously, what's endgame here?  Wikipedia could probably answer some of these questions for me, but I'm lazy- and right now I'm just really confused about where that's going.


I've also been spoiled about what happened in the Sleepy Hollow finale.  It's put an end to what desire I had to ever get back into the show, which is sad.  I'll always miss the first season.  It was so good.

Yeah, I'd get bored pretty fast if they were even more the focus than they are on the show.

I was thinking it would probably turn out that they weren't siblings after all but it's just such an odd plot-point, you know? I was watching kind of going, "Why is this happening?"

It got grating to me in the books, but I must say, the author does get better and better handling such stuff with each new book I read. And with the book I am reading now (the Clockwork Prince) I have no complains and are quite impressed actually.

Yeah, the show could have spent a little more time on that storyline and in general on Valentine and the history, which could have helped the Clary-Jace storyline make more sense. The season really needed some more episodes in my opinion.

Yeah, more episodes would probably have helped. It seemed like the show had a lot to do and not a lot of time to do it.
