So I'm sure the new "quick comments" feature has it's charms- it's probably convenient and all- but it's like they genuinely want this site to look just like tumblr or facebook.

I feel that my doubts about the "like" button have been borne out.  It's not really a very good way to communicate "Hey I've seen your post but I don't really have anything to in particular to say" when the person whose post you're liking has no idea who you are in the first place.

I just saw the announcement. Seems like another pointless feature. I’ve been on LJ for a little over 10 years now and I never felt the need for such a feature. To be honest, I prefer to read the other comments on a post before I comment, because what I want to say/ask might have already been said. In some cases that might not be an issue or even unavoidable, but in others my whole comment might be pointless if I’m missing information from other comments. What’s the point in asking a question that has already been answered? How many times do you want to answer meme questions for the same fandom just because people used the quick comment option and were too lazy to check if this fandom has already been done? IMO, the quick comment feature might turn out to be more of a burden for OPs than a help for commenters.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're right that it might actually be more of a problem than a help in some cases- especially with memes.

Yeah I was kind of on the fence about it at first, but now I really don't see that it adds anything to the user experience, I mean you don't even get an email notification of who actually liked your entry? You will only even see the likes if you have the right LJ style to click on them in that entry, meh

It's bizarre that they go through the trouble of sending out a notification email but somehow don't think knowing who the like came matters to anyone.

The like button is useless. I haven't moved to the new style, so I don't think I've seen the quick comments thing.

I don't use the new style either, I just saw the post the LJ staff made introducing the new feature and... it literally looked like Facebook. I think it's pretty silly that they keep making their site less and less unique.
