So first there was a panic about how FOSTA/SESTA was going to get fanworks banned (here's the AO3 write up on the subject), and now I see people talking about how Microsoft's new TOS could mean the same thing, and I'm just... so tired right now.
I just looked into alternative email sites to outlook on a whim and I found that pretty much all of them had the same TOS. Like if you really think you're going to get terminated because of AO3's review messages or because you used "fuck" in an email, I'm not sure there are really any other options.
As far as I can tell, it's just typical corporate base covering, but the paranoia I've seen on tumblr has been pretty incredible.
Have a lot of people here been hearing this stuff? Are you worried and/or trying to do anything about it?

Date: 2018-04-18 04:36 pm (UTC)Basically the email issue is that under Microsoft's new TOS (starting this May) "offensive language" and porn related stuff will banned on their platforms, including Outlook (the email service I use), Skype, and Office 360. According to Microsoft, they won't be trawling through every single person's data to look for violations, but if they receive a complaint they'll be able to use to it to boot people.
It simply isn't feasible for them to get rid of every single person who might be in defiance of this rule because... well, that would be nearly everyone, wouldn't it? But anyway people on tumblr have been talking about how we need to use new email services (I guess there are also problems with gmail this way) and find alternatives to Word, and all kinds of stuff.
