I have seen Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, which I would describe as an okay movie that didn't need to be anywhere near as long as it was.  And it was only half of the story they evidently want to tell.

I haven't seen this one yet, but my hopes/expectations for a Mission Impossible movie are that there will be some cool action scenes, one or more villainous villains with a villainous plan(s), some fun team banter and a satisfying ending, and I'm a bit disappointed that DR is already guaranteed to not have that last one. :(

(I'll still end up watching it eventually, because I've enjoyed all other MI movies thus far, but I wish they'd found a way to make it another 'movie with a sequel where the villain will return' like they did before.)

Yeah, that kind of ending would definitely have worked better.

I didn't think it was bad or anything, and a lot of people have definitely liked it better than me, so hopefully you'll enjoy it when you watch.

I wonder where the general "movies must get LONGER!!"-trend came from, originally? Movies seem to get longer and longer, and few are made better for it. Thanks for the heads-up about the new Mission Impossible - I've enjoyed most of the Impossible-movies and was thinking about seeing this one in cinema, buuuut it sounds like a film meant to be watched at home, where you can take breaks whenever you want (+ I'll likely wait and see if there'll be a second movie before I get to this one at all).
