Most annoying character
Okay, so- Smash was always sort of a hit or miss show, but there was a lot to love about it. There were numbers from the show's musical "Bombshell"- which if it was real I would go see any of the day of the week- in almost every episode, there were gay characters whose love lives got as much screen time as the straight ones, and it had Jack Davenport as a horrible- but hot- director. It was crazy, and most of the people in it were caricatures, but it was entertaining. In the first season.
In S2, Smash threw out basically everything that I liked about it. "Bombshell" was mostly replaced by the far less interesting and virtually impossible to follow "Hit List." Tom and Sam's sweet relationship fell apart for no good reason. Jack Davenport was still horrible and hot, but everyone else started to act even more like spoiled children than they had before. It just stopped being fun. But I soldiered on because I still cared about those characters- except for this one new one who made what was bad so, so much worse. Jimmy. (I can't put tone into font, though Lord knows I wish I could, but imagine a tone of utter loathing.)
Jimmy was a self-centered, aggravating, little brat. Any insult to his work as a composer- which was perfect- was an insult to him, and he too was perfect. No one understood his genius and everyone but him was always, always wrong. He had one friend, who eventually got pointlessly killed off in order to teach Jimmy something (and that isn't just my Doylist reading of what was going on in the show; using the musical they wrote together as a metaphor, the writers straight up tell viewers that he had been killed off in order to teach Jimmy something). And even when he was trying to redeem himself, it was still all the Jimmy show all the time, and it was still handled so poorly it made me just want to tear my hair out. Every time I thought I'd found something to like about S2, he'd come on screen and make me forget again.
