Welp. I'm going with Cecil/Carlos on this one, although how much that couple is played for laughs depends on how much anything from Welcome to Night Vale is played for laughs. The line between humor and... things that are not humor is always very thin. Of course, the line between the canon and the fanon is pretty thin here too. I mean, google Welcome to Night Vale fanart, especially of the Cecil/Carlos variety, sometime. Your mind is blown, right? And the fic... But anyway, the series is just a radio broadcast giving you tiny glimpses of the full world into which the fans have jumped with both feet, which means that- at the end of the day- Cecil/Carlos is just a radio personality giving his listeners entirely too much information about his crush on, and subsequent dates with, the hot new scientist in town. So yeah, I guess it is supposed to be funny.
