My fic recs for the book series and the show, pretty exclusively Harry Dresden/John Marcone (some of which have a vaguely alluded to side order of Hendricks/Gard) for the books and Bob/Harry for the show.

Will be updated regularly!

Bring Not All Mischief by daughterofmuses (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Explicit)

I love fanfiction tropes.  The forced marriage trope isn't my favorite, but this one is really, really good.  It goes A.U. after the end of Turn Coat; Harry has enemies in Winter, and Lea makes Marcone marry him in order to protect him.  Harry is actually kind of happy about that, though it takes Marcone a while to figure that out.  Hendricks and Gard are lovely here, as is Thomas.

Enemy Mine by Rassaku (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Teen)

This is a plotty, novel length story, be that a warning or an encouragement.  Marcone asks Harry out on a date, and that isn't even the weirdest thing that happens to him.  This story reads just like a novel in the series except for the gay romance part.  It's also pretty realistic: nothing is black and white here, which also sets it apart from the series.  Harry finally gets called out on some of his more hypocritical ideas about good and evil.

If It Makes You Happy by Dwarfankylosaur (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Teen)

Marcone thinks Harry is in a relationship with Thomas, and that Thomas is a really bad boyfriend, but instead of trying to break them up like a normal person, he just tries to make Thomas better, mainly by sending Harry thoughtful stuff in Thomas’ name. This goes badly. The fic is hilarious and zany, but in my opinion nothing seems particularly far-fetched. Harry just has a crazy life.

other things the road to hell is paved with by LuciaZephyr (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Harry Dresden/Susan Rodriguez; Explicit)

So, this fic is part of a larger series, The Matter of Chicago, which isn't finished and doesn't look like it ever will be.  However, this first part of it reads on it's own and is so good I recommend it anyway.  It goes A.U. early in the series, when Harry is actually coerced into Marcone's employ- instead of just avoiding it.  He finds he likes it.  This story is long and wonderfully subtle, taking its time developing their always complicated relationship.

My (not so) Imaginary Friend by kjollar (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Not Rated) overflow here

This is an A.U. where Harry was given a blessing as a child to never be alone.  As a result, he developed a life long telepathic connection with someone he always knew as Johnny.  Marcone and Harry finally meet as they do in canon, but their connection- and the subtle influence Marcone has had on Harry throughout his life- has an effect on Harry which changes everything.  Also as a result of Marcone's influence, Harry and Morgan develop a much less antagonistic relationship here than they had in the canon, and it's lovely to see.

Near Miss by binz and shiplizard (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Charity Carpenter/Michael Carpenter; Explicit)

This is a lovely A.U. series in which the Vargassi family runs Chicago, and Marcone is Harry's mechanic.  It parallels the first three books wonderfully, giving a fantastic take on how things might have been, and Harry and Marcone’s prickly friendship is lovely. There are some great scenes with Bob, and Marcone has hilarious nicknames for Harry.  There's great use of Princess Bride quotes, too.

Please Hang Up and Try Again by Aja and thehoyden (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Explicit)

In this story, Marcone courts Harry, for lack of a better term, with phone calls. Sure, he sends Harry things that Harry refuses to accept, but this isn’t really about those, as is clear in the title. Their conversations are priceless. It’s very funny and very romantic, and though I might have wanted it to last longer than it did, I recommend it highly.

Suppositions by GhostoftheMotif (Harry Dresden/John Marcone; Teen)

Harry finds a magic stone that will transport him to a safe haven, or sanctuary. He uses it while gravely injured, and he is unceremoniously dumped at the perfectly polished shoes of Gentleman Johnny Marcone, who is mid-shoot-out in a warehouse. When Harry finally regains consciousness in Marcone’s house two days later, he is understandably puzzled. There is great background on John and Hendricks here.

Forged by darktrent182 (Bob/Harry Dresden; Multiple Ratings)

This story mixes the books and the TV show surprisingly well. Bob, Justin, and Murphy, are much as they are in the show, but some characters who never made it to the screen are here, Ebenezer McCoy in particular. The story follows Harry from childhood- and his potentially disastrous effort to quell a crush on Bob with a potion- to adulthood, and works through the TV show and then beyond. It’s well written, funny, and deep.

The Rune Cycle by dream_mender (Bob/Harry Dresden; Explicit)

This is a lovely story wherein Bob and Harry had a relationship when Harry was younger, but Justin wiped him memories of it.  Sadly, this author has left livejournal, but b_cavis's podfic remains here and I love it so much I had to mention it.

Too Good to Be True by belmanoir (Bob/Harry Dresden; Explicit)

In the aftermath of the Justin debacle, Harry has nightmares and finally fesses up to Bob that he’s loved him since he was a kid. My favorite thing about this story is that the writer doesn’t wave a magic wand and make Bob corporeal again just so he and Harry can do the nasty. In fact, this story does a very good job of convincing readers that he doesn’t really need to be corporeal at all.

I am not in any way familar with canon - but I'll take a look anyway and see if I find stories I like. I've found stories before in fandoms with canon I don't know, so I might get lucky here as well :)

:) If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask! It's a great book series, though. If you ever run across it, I recommend it.
