A few people on my Flist have already posted about this, but I want to boost the signal and encourage everyone- whether they write fanfiction or not- to do the same.
This website has fic by a bunch of authors- yes, including me- posted without credit and without their consent. In my case, it's just summary and an AO3 link- just like I always post here on LJ- so I'm not as hurt by it as some, but for people who post fanfic on their LJ, the whole fic could be on the site too.
I gather from other posts on the subject that it's a computerized process that finds entries tagged with "fanfic" or similar (I'm tagging this entry with fanfic and it may appear, as others complaints/remarks have, on the site pretty soon) and reposts the entries to the blog. There's an area for complaints where authors can request to have their fic taken down, but the problems with that are that a) despite the large number of people who have complained about this, only two addressed complaints are visible, so it's generally pretty fishy, and b) due to tag fuckery, it's extremely difficult to search for older posts in an efficient manner. Seriously, I only found the one of mine because I
just posted it; I don't know about any others and I haven't really gone digging yet. As a result, even if/when I register a complaint, it'll be hard to be sure that I'm asking for everything of mine that's on there to be removed.
Please check if your work is there and signal boost if you can. Maybe enough complaints will get something done. At the very least, I'm hoping enough unrelated posts tagged fanfic will muck up the works some.
