Title: A Different Path
Fandom: The Hobbit
Pairing/Characters: Fili/Kili/Tauriel, Bilbo Baggins/Thorin Oakenshield, Dis, The Company
Summary: Kíli’s version of the events of An Accidental Engagement.
Rating: NC-17
Length: Long (16,195 words)
Disclaimer: None of this belongs to me, except the things I made up about dwarf courting.
Notes/Warnings: Includes incest, obviously, and some suicidal behavior.  An Accidental Engagement should probably be read first even though this is very different in tone.
Excerpt: Kíli knew that he needed to convince Fíli that yes, he loved Tauriel- but he loved Fíli too and if he did nothing else for the rest of his life he would find a way to be with both of them, whether such a thing was customary among their kind or not. Kíli also knew that he was only likely to get one chance to do it, so it was going to have to be perfect.

And as Fíli would have told anyone who asked, getting things right in one try was not one of Kíli’s specialties.

Also from [livejournal.com profile] verdande_mi: Do you have a favourite scene and a favourite quote from The Hobbit and/or Lord of the rings (films or book, or both)?

Though I've read The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books, it was a long time ago and I don't remember them that well, so I'm definitely going with the films.

I think my favorite moment in the LOTR movies (espeically at the time when they first came out) was in The Two Towers when Gimli can't see over the wall and Legolas asks if he should describe what's going on to him, or get him a box.  In general, Gimli and Legolas' friendship is my favorite thing about LOTR, so my favorite moment in The Hobbit was probably when Legolas is looking at Gloin's pictures and asks what this 'goblin mutant' is and Gloin says, "That's my wee son Gimli."  I thought it was really adorable.  Perhaps more so than it warranted.

Notes/Warnings: Apologies for all the background OT3 that happened in this fic.  You can read Kili's POV of the events in this story in A Different Path, which is much more explicit than this fic.
Excerpt: “It’s something I’ve been working on, for Thorin. It’s a … chronicle. Of our adventure.” Bilbo thought that would be fine thing for Thorin to have, but suddenly he found himself wondering if it was a suitable gift for a king. “That is… right, isn’t it?”

“Yes,” Kíli said eagerly. He was practically glowing. “Since you’re not one for dwarven crafts, that is. It’s a work of your hands and a very symbolic one too. It’s perfectly appropriate.”

Bilbo glanced at Fíli for confirmation, and found him unusually pale. But then, Kíli was elbowing him rather hard and perhaps in a place that was still tender. “Yes,” Fíli agreed at last, and conjured a slow smile. “It’s appropriate.”

From [livejournal.com profile] a_phoenixdragon, When you see this, share 3 random snippets from 3 WIPs

So, I had a stupid little argument with myself over whether or not to do the "I'm really proud of the snippet.  You liked it?  Well, tough luck sucker because that's all I have written of that fic" version of this meme, but I drew the line.

These are all from stories that are at least 80% done and may will surface not too long from now.

An Accidental Engagement- The Hobbit, Bilbo/Thorin )

Something Blue- Once Upon a Time, Belle/Rumplestiltskin, Doctor Who AU sequel )

The Three Curses- The Musketeers, Aramis/Athos/Porthos + Constance/d'Artagnan, Fairytale AU )

Look, they even have titles! (I'm so bad at titles it's not even funny)

Title: A Journey Home
Fandom: The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings
Pairing/Characters: Gimli/Legolas, Tauriel (references to Kili/Tauriel), Thranduil
Summary: Legolas returns to the Greenwood with a dwarf in tow.
Rating: PG
Length: Short (1,551 words)
Disclaimer: None of these characters belong to me.
Notes/Warnings: Includes references to canon character death and a generally unforunate balance of sadness and fluff.
Excerpt: “He is a dear friend who has been with me through many hardships.”

“Undoubtedly,” Tauriel replied. “But do not doubt for a moment that I have been among dwarves enough to know courting braids when I see them.” She nodded to Legolas’ hair. Her expression grew melancholy, but it carried traces of amusement still.

The Hobbit

I saw The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies yesterday.

Some thoughts from the trailers:

Latest in the ongoing saga of remaking perfectly good movies because we have better special effects and must use them gratuitously, we have a new Mad Max.  I like Tom Hardy, it's a shame this movie looks so stupid.  Just because you can make a thing look realistic in your movie doesn't mean you should.

In the Heart of the Sea: I don't even know what this is, but seriously since when did Moby Dick come from a true story?  Maybe it did- I'm just saying I've never heard that before, and this trailer had a very "As we all know..." tone to it.

Then there were two trailers for films already in my theater, the new Night at the Museum movie and Into the Woods.  Movies take so long to come out now; it's surreal (and sad) when a film comes out with an actor who passed away some time ago as with Night at the Museum. I doubt I'll see the movie itself.  I actually saw the second one recently and found it more entertaining than I expected to.  I did learn from the trailer that the guy I was calling Not-Tom-Mison in my head based on the poster is meant to be Sir Lancelot, but he would still be improved by being played by Tom Mison.  I doubt I'll see Into the Woods either; I've never been a fan of that musical.  It was a well-made trailer, though.

And my thoughts on the film )

It's interesting how well post-BOTFA fix-it fics hold up now that the film is out.  I mean, I haven't read The Hobbit in years, but the one I wrote is still pretty valid.  I may post it sometime soon, but that'll require typing it up.  Meh.
